The Meaning of Empathos

The name Empathos comes from the Greek word pathos, “to feel deeply,” combined with em-, “within.” Empathos reflects the ability to activate transformation from within—shaping not just what leaders know, but who they become. Labs carries this meaning forward into the digital age, marrying human connection with AI-enabled adaptability to create learning that lasts.

A Note from Our Founder

When I launched Empathos Labs, it was built on the conviction that leadership transformation must be reimagined for the Human + AI era. Lasting change doesn’t come from slide decks or content libraries—it comes when learning activates both the brain and the heart, reshaping identity itself.

Research shows that transformation happens when four elements combine: Immersion × (Psychological Safety + Stretch Challenge) + Emotional Activation + Structured Reflection. This formula, born from four years of doctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania and tested in the field, guides everything we design.
